Nobels fredspris 2020 tilldelas World Food Program (FN:s livsmedelsprogram) för “its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.”

Istället för att investera i grundläggande behov som mat, boende och sjukvård satsas resurserna idag på upprustning och vapen. Världen spenderar varje år över 1900 miljarder dollar på militära utgifter. En bråkdel skulle räcka för att stoppa svält, säger Malin Nilsson, generalsekreterare Internationella Kvinnoförbundet för Fred och Frihet, IKFF.

– Kriget i Jemen är ett exempel på där förnödenheter blockerats från att nå civilbefolkningen. År 2019 rapporterade den franska webbplatsen Disclose att det svenska företaget Saabs radar- och uppdragssystem Erieye kan ha använts för att upprätthålla blockaden. Under Jemenkrigets första fem år exporterade Sverige krigsmateriel till sex av de stridande parterna i den Saudiledda koalitionen till ett värde av 2,2 miljarder kronor. Det är oacceptabelt och all export, inklusive följdleveranser, måste upphöra omedelbart.
– Bristen på mat riskerar alltid att leda till väpnade konflikter och svält kan användas som vapen i krig genom exempelvis blockader. Att skapa global matsäkerhet är därför ett sätt att förebygga väpnade konflikter.
– Bristen på mat är ett hot mot kvinnors säkerhet, både direkt och indirekt då kvinnor och flickor tvingas söka sig längre bort för att införskaffa mat till sin familj, vilket ökar risken för våld. Flickor gifts också bort för att säkra överlevnad. Bristen på grundläggande behov hindrar kvinnors deltagande som aktörer i samhället.

”Our first reaction is that this award falls in line with the current security context marked by armed conflicts, with massive displacement of populations and the influx of refugees to host countries as a consequence. In Cameroon, the WFP is making significant contribution to peace efforts through the provision of food supplies refugee camps. These efforts are aimed at eliminating hunger, which is a source or aggravating factor of conflicts. Congratulations to this institution whose objective of achieving food security for all contributes to building lasting peace in Cameroon and throughout the world”.

WFP has a significant role in Sudan by helping the people in conflict affected areas and displacement camps. For example Uganda that habits the biggest number of refugees in Africa depends on WFP to feed this population. Without it, Uganda as a government cannot sustain the people or displaced people in camps. We therefore think it was in order for those awarding to give it to WFP because their cause is ensuring continuity of life of millions of people in the world. Without food life is no more.”

”Congratulations to the WFP for this happy crowning of the Nobel peace prize received this year when the health crisis linked to the Covid-19 pandemic has nailed the entire planet to extreme poverty and destitution. The WFP affirmed itself very well in its mission and responded favorably to all the requests related to the context because ”a hungry belly has no ears”. Food security supports peacebuilding and peacebuilding reinforces food security. Food security interventions provide opportunities for the world’s highest authorities to address deep-rooted gender inequalities and promote women’s economic empowerment, women’s property rights and access to land, and women’s participation in decision-making on natural resource management. Togo was supported by FAO within the framework of Covid-19 through the Ministry of Social Protection, the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Production and Fisheries as well as non-governmental organizations to disseminate messages related to the fight against Covid-19 and among actors in the food chain to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Ur Feminist policies for climate change som tagits fram av bland andra IKFF inom CONCORD Sverige.
Småskaliga jordbrukare i Latinamerika, Afrika söder om Sahara och Syd- och Östasien, som innehar mindre än fem hektar jordbruksmark, ansvarar för ungefär hälften av den mat som produceras globalt. Kvinnliga jordbrukare från dessa regioner rapporterar att de alltmer behöver skydda sin mark och miljön från ohållbar utvinning och klimatförändringar. När människor tar ställning mot, löper de stora risker att bli trakasserade, hotade eller mördade. Kvinnor som drabbas står inför ett omöjligt val att antingen förlora sin försörjning eller visa motstånd och riskera sina liv.
